Needle Felting with Nerissa!

Today was another class I really looked forward to at the Seaford/Moana Neighborhood Centre since the last time I ran this textiles course, I was introduced to an awesomely creative textile medium and technique, NEEDLE FELTING!
There are no limits to the things you can create! You are sculpting and creating anything from animals, to flat felt, 2D or 3D, big or small, anything can be made! It was a pleasure to have back our lovely Guest Speaker Nerissa, who has exhibited her creations in a gallery, sold in boutiques and online and very gladly showed our Textile's class how it is done!

It is such a cute art form, especially if you take it to a 'micro craft' level, as Nerissa did and made me a tiny purple kitty (see pic) and I placed it next to a 50c piece to show it's size! Loved it! After the class finished I drove straight to spotlight to buy more dyed merino wool and needles, I'm not finished yet! Fingers crossed I can make a few more to sell at the markets next month, it really is so much fun and I suggest you try it, there are plenty of great books on it out there too!

Elizabeth Camping's Quilt Art & Free-Motion Sewing

Today I was thrilled to introduce to the Textile's Class our guest speaker, Elizabeth Camping and her incredible collection of Quilt Art designs. Elizabeth has been quilting for many years and you can really tell it is a passion and her calling to create beautiful works of textile art which bring so much happiness and awe to others. When you see Elizabeth's work you immediately appreciate the hours which go into such intricate pieces, from the planning to finding just the right fabrics and embellishments and then cutting and constructing such work on a much larger scale.

Her work is perfectly balanced in colour, texture and composition in such a way it seems narrative, figurative and detailed right down to the finest glass seed beads and rainbow metallic threads. It truly can be said that a good quilt, like any piece of art, needs more than 10 minutes to appreciate and to take in every detail.

Elizabeth has won many international quilting competitions and exhibited all over the world, she currently only teaches at the Seaford/Moana Neighborhood Centre centre on Tuesday mornings and I am so grateful to have had her demonstrate in our Textile's class the work and techniques she uses and we all felt incredibly inspired by it. Thankyou Elizabeth! I hope to get quilting soon, even if I just start small!

Please make sure you check out Elizabeth's blog to see more of her beautiful work & maybe come along to one of her classes if you're interested in Quilting and Quilt Art! I also wish to congratulate Elizabeth's quilting class for entering their class quilt (inspired by Seaford/Moana Neighborhood Centre) and won a Toyota Sewing Machine for the centre, well done ladies!

It was a lovely sunny day this weekend by the beach at the Port Noarlunga Arts Centre, although the Christmas Pageant was on at the same time, we still had a good turn out and I managed to sell 3 fashion illustrations on the first day!

I was flat out drawing from dusk til dawn the night before (excuse the tired face) but was so happy to see some familiar faces come and support me and see my work. Many thanks to those who did and to my lovely customers!

Here are the photos from then, be sure to like Port Noarlunga's Arts Centre Facebook Page and if you'd like to purchase my work you can email Belinda.Zanello@gmail.com. Most of my work is between $10-15 for this sale + postage.
