'The Wine Harvest' Gown

As you may have seen on the Facebook page, I've been flat out working towards my deadline for my 'secret  design project'. Here it is at last, I can finally reveal, 'The Wine Harvest' Gown!

Inspired by Wine harvesting, the deep grape-coloured satin flows like wine, cascading over the female form, softened with organza 'leafy' flounces & embellished with glass-jewel grapes. Using 'up-cycled' fabric to promote renewing & recycling. This gown is an entrant in the McLaren Vale Harvest Festival, Jan 2012. Stay tuned to see if it is accepted in the exhibit!

The fashion shoot was above & beyond my imagination, everyone worked so well together to achieve the desired outcome, it was very amazing to watch it all unfold. A note of gratitude also to Woodstock Wine Estate for allowing us to shoot on location in their vineyard, it completed the garment & I am so grateful.

Natural-materials Jewellery

Lately I've been trying to use natural materials in my jewellery making, as a way of reflecting on the beauty that can be found naturally without having to use synthetic man-made materials all the time.

I was even so fortunate to have a friend of mine, Katie, donate some materials which once belonged to her grandmother, to be re-styled and given new life again. The curious collection included gum nuts, kidney beans, seeds, nuts and other amazing findings!

I will have to start on those soon, but until then, here is the latest I've been making, using rose quartz, tiger eye, sea shells & wooden beads. All available to buy from my facebook https://www.facebook.com/pages/Belinda-Zanello-Fashion-styling-illustration-jewellery/148916288493758 or you can email me at BelindaZanello@gmail.com.

Enjoy!

Paper+Plus Art Sale

After much work & self-discipline, 20 Fashion Illustrations made their way to my first ever art exhibition/sale. Fashion Illustration definitely feels like my 2nd occupation, after having a full-on week sewing costumes for my other job, I'd go home, have dinner, have a coffee and start my second job. But I looked forward to it every day. A big note of gratitude is due to Nerissa, for encouraging me to participate in it, always a pleasure to be involved in events you co-ordinate for The Arts :)

So without further ado, here are the photos from the 2011 Paper+Plus Art Sale at Port Noarlunga Arts Centre, on the 29th-30th October. (Fashion illustrations in acrylic on canvas, water colour, graphite, colour pencil, chalk, charcoal & metallic pencil)

The part that really had my heart racing (apart from just hanging my work up next to some incredibly talented and individual artists!) was doing an 'Art Demo' during my volunteer time in the middle of the room, illustrating the green dress Keira Knightly wears in the film 'Atonement'. I've nearly finished it now & will share it soon.

If you made it to the Arts Centre, thankyou so much for coming & supporting local artists! It was a great learning curb for me & it truly opened my eyes to see how unique and varied people's art styles can be, each just as valid and interesting as the last. I know I have a long way to go & will continue to develop my style & portfolio, but that is the beauty of the journey, no? I will also be selling some of these illustrations, framed & unframed, originals & prints at the Fleurieu Artisans Market (https://www.facebook.com/pages/FLEURIEU-ARTISANS-SHOWCASE/176972252365126,) December 10th, see you there!

To PURCHASE any of my illustrations from this Art Sale, check out my facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Belinda-Zanello-Fashion-styling-illustration-jewellery/148916288493758) to comment under the photo of the one you'd like, or you can email Belinda.Zanello@gmail.com for enquiries :)

PAOLO SEBASTIAN A/W 2012 PARADE

On the 18th of October, 7pm at the Festival Function Centre I (and 950 others!) attended a little bit of Adelaide Fashion history & witnessed a parade I will tell my grandkiddies about. (Professional Photography courtesy of Antony Snape- www.antonysnape.com)

Paolo Sebastian (Paul Vasileff) started his label at 16, in his final year of high school with a love of couture and tailoring. Fast track to 2011, and at age 21, after being accepted for a scholarship into the Instituto Europeo di Design in Milan in 2010 he has just released his Autumn/Winter Couture collection for 2012 as part of the Adelaide Fashion Festival, 11-22 Oct 2011.

His collection was inspired by the Russian composer Tchaikovsky's 'Swan Lake', evoking the strong emotion and elegance of the music. The parade opened to the familiar music of Swan Lake & built up to an intense height with a lights show and mist on the catwalk as the models floated and sashayed at an ethereal pace along the catwalk which was elegantly trimmed with ivy bouquets, completing the theme.

The diaphanous silhouettes and draped chiffon reminded me of Haute Couture designer Elie Saab, who also has a way of embracing the female form with soft, flouncy fabrics contouring feminine soft curves. The bodices were swathed in in silks, velvets and my favourite, trending at the moment, lace. The precision detailing was incredibly romantic, embellished with crystal beading, from afar looking like sugared frosting and sparkling like stars.

The skirts were like bouquets of cascading soft fabric, where I could really appreciate the thought that went into the cut & shape of each piece of fabric involved. The frothy confectioneries of tulle and chiffon was pure romanticism & fantasy. Paolo really takes you away from the mundane and into pure, unrestrained fancy and couture, every girls dream. The type of couture that could change your life in that cinderella instant.

I enjoyed the story of the parade, opening in what felt like the tale of the white swan where everything was light and pure, fantasy and imagination, but I especially enjoyed the middle of the parade where there featured a short red dress and a tan coat. To me it symbolised a moment for the audience as if the story itself was coming up for air, pausing, showing us the story of the girl in Swan Lake amidst the beauty and intense couture of the white swan and taking a quick breath before descending into the depths of the black swan's seductive underworld.

And of course, how can I leave out the grand finale, the Couture Bride. Literally stealing my heart and making me want to get married tomorrow. It was all of the above and more. Congratulations Paolo, I wish you every success in life and in fashion. I was so inspired to blog and illustrate from the catwalk parade. It was an inspiring night indeed.

(Paolo's designs are available to buy from his studio, you can contact him via www.paolosebastian.com)
